Hobo Harvest

This is a Ludum Dare entry from January 2023. The theme was simple: “Harvest”
A small team of four people made this game. I was responsible for the programming and 3D Art.
The Game:
You are playing a homeless person looking for food in the city. People are nice and give you something to eat. But there are two things to look out for: Henry the Harvester who is driving around the city with increasingly speed and your withdrawal symptoms. So you have to find food, find mushrooms, don’t get caught by the police and of course Henry.
My contributions:
I was responsible for creating the game in Unreal Engine and modelling all assets because there was lack of 3D knowledge in the team. Because of the clock ticking, i decided to not rig the NPCs, but use the characters our talented 2D Artist Iman drew and but them onto cardboards. I decided to use some kind of South-Park like motion for those characters and it worked out great as this was praised among players. On the art-side i was als very proud of my Donut-Shop.
I used a data table to create level-difficulty, which involved Harvey’s speed on the map (his movement is based along a spline), timelimit and amount of food the player has to gather.
Trivia:
The game received pretty good ratings (humour was on 89th place of nearly 1700 games) and we managed to publish the game without major bugs because the game was finished within the firs 48 hours within the jam. The last hours we could focus on finetuning and polishing. Thankfully we decided to not add new features at that point.
